What do you know about recycling? As one of the four major principles of a circular economy, recycling is a super important factor in maintaining a circular economy. Proper recycling prevents some items from going to the landfill – saving valuable space and helping to extend the life of the landfill. Properly recycled materials can be turned into something else useful, further extending their own lifespan and keeping them out of the landfill even longer.

One major way you can get into recycling is by learning about TerraCycle. TerraCycle is a company whose mission is, in their own words, to “eliminate the idea of waste” by innovating the business of recycling and reuse. They find unique solutions to recycling challenges to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills, giving many items second lives as they are reused in some way. We have several TerraCycle partners across Peterborough County that recycle different items that can’t be recycled in the blue box. Find a list of locations and the type of recycling item they accept on the TerraCycle website. If you’re a business owner, maybe consider looking into a partnership of your own!
