Preparing your Household Emergency Plan together
Your household emergency plan helps you know who to call, where to go, and what to do before an emergency happens.
Here are some simple actions to get started:
Talk with your household or family
- Choose a meeting place inside and outside your home
- Decide who everyone will contact if separated
- Review how you’ll communicate during an emergency
- Include your pet emergency plan
If you rely on regular support services
- Reach out to your home care, community programs, or mobility support providers
- Ask what emergency services or backup options are available
- Make sure you know who to call and what to expect if your routine or services are disrupted
If you’re a parent or caregiver
- Contact your child’s school or daycare
- Learn their emergency procedures, reunification plans, and communication methods
- Add their information to your own emergency plan
If you take regular medication
- Call your doctor or talk to a pharmacist
- Ask how extreme events (heat waves, power outages, winter storms) could affect your medication
- Find out if there are safe storage alternatives or short-term solutions during emergencies
