Circular County Community is your inclusive hub for sustainable living in Peterborough County. It helps residents share resources, reuse materials, repair items, and recycle responsibly. By embracing circular economy principles, we reduce waste, extend the life of everyday goods, and strengthen our community. Every action—whether donating, repairing, or borrowing—helps close the loop for a cleaner, greener Peterborough County.

Our current “take-make-dispose” system relies on extracting resources, making products, and throwing them away. This creates unnecessary waste and puts pressure on natural resources. But there’s a better way.

A circular economy keeps products and materials in use for as long as possible. Instead of throwing things out, we share, repair, reuse, and recycle. Local businesses can take part by choosing products that are built to last, easy to repair, and made from recyclable or renewable materials.

Residents play a key role. Here’s how you can help:

  • Repair or donate items instead of throwing them away
  • Shop second-hand or participate in local clothing and item swaps
  • Compost food and yard waste, and recycle properly
  • Support local repair shops and businesses focused on sustainability
  • Borrow, rent, or share tools and equipment through community programs

To support these actions, we’ve created the Share, Reuse, Repair, Recycle (SRRR) Hub: an interactive map that highlights local businesses and organizations in Peterborough County that are building a circular economy. Whether you're looking to fix an appliance, donate gently used items, or find reusable materials, the Hub connects you with the right local resources.

Together, through small everyday choices and by using what our community offers, we can reduce waste, grow our local circular economy, and build a more sustainable County.
